Key Services Provided by K-8 Guidance Counselors
K-8 guidance counselors focus on the holistic development of students, covering academic success, social-emotional well-being, and early career awareness.
1. Social-Emotional Development (SEL)
- Focus: Helping students manage emotions, develop empathy, and maintain positive relationships.
- Services: Short-term Individual Counseling, Small Group Counseling (e.g., anger management, social skills), Classroom Guidance Lessons, and Bullying Prevention programs.
2. Academic Support
- Focus: Ensuring students develop the habits and skills necessary for academic success.
- Services: Development of Study Skills (organization, time management), Early Intervention, and Course Selection Guidance (in middle school).
3. Career Awareness
- Focus: Introducing the concept of how skills and interests relate to future careers.
- Services: Early Career Exploration, Setting Short-Term Goals, and Identifying Strengths and Interests.
4. Collaboration and Transition
- Focus: Serving as a link between the home, school, and community to support the student's overall well-being.
Services: Consultation with Parents and Teachers, Referrals to Community Resources (e.g., therapists, social services), and Transition Planning (e.g., to middle and high school).
